Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. Primarily responsible for processing and grossing of biopsy and excision specimens under the oversight of a Pathologist.
Receive, verify, and prepare specimens using correct technique and protocol. Perform examination of specimens through inspection by palpation and with the aid of instruments; Dictate account of all important findings from gross examination. Performs slide/specimen preparation and analysis for frozen section using appropriate procedure with precision and accuracy Processes cytologic material. Prepares materials that need to be sent to reference labs. Handles and disposes of all used specimens and collection material safely according to laboratory policy. Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Minimum of a baccalaureate degree in medical laboratory science or in an appropriate biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution, or otherwise meeting regulatory requirements.
