Pathology Technician
Job Title: Pathology TechnicianJob Description As a Pathology Technician, you will accurately perform and interpret test results, notify Laboratory Management of any deviations, prepare and analyze samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries, and apply aseptic/microbiological techniques in daily tasks. You will also report inventory and expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements, conduct routine preventive maintenance, assist in quality duties, and maintain a high degree of technical competence by staying informed about food industry issues and trends. Performing all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner is essential, as is sharing information openly and in a timely manner. You will manage priorities and schedules to achieve individual and team goals and ensure the safety of yourself and others working within the area. Responsibilities + Accurately perform and interpret test results, notifying Laboratory Management of any deviations. + Prepare and analyze samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries. + Apply aseptic/microbiological techniques in daily tasks. + Report inventory and expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements. + Conduct routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, trash disposal, and equipment quality control. + Assist in quality duties by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc. + Follow a series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with policies/procedures and customer requirements. + Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals, attending professional workshops, and staying informed about food industry issues and trends. + Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner. + Share information openly and in a timely manner. + Manage priorities and schedule to achieve individual and team goals, with encouraged participation in the team. + Ensure the safety of oneself and others working within the area. Essential Skills + Reliability + Timeliness + Communication + Experience or desire to work in a laboratory setting + Familiarity with microbiology Additional Skills & Qualifications + Associate degree in Life Science or related field with two or more years of laboratory experience, preferred. + Two or more years of experience in a commercial food-testing or analytical laboratory. + Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Working knowledge of aseptic sampling technique, automated lab equipment, and acceptable methods and procedures. + Familiarity with GLP, OSHA guidelines, FDA, BAM, APHA, ISO, and USP methods and procedures. + Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory. Work Environment The work environment is fast-paced and interactive, with teamwork and communication being key. The lab can vary from quiet to loud, and temperatures can range from hot to cold, depending on the equipment and processes in use. Tasks are diverse, keeping the work interesting and engaging, and precision is crucial. Strict safety protocols must be adhered to, and maintaining a clean and sterile environment is essential. The lab offers numerous opportunities to learn new techniques and expand your knowledge in microbiology. You will work closely with a team of scientists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The shift for this role is Thursday to Monday, 5 am to 1 pm.
