Are you living your life's work? Summary: + The Pathway Program Associate (PPA) will rotate as assigned throughout the program to support various departments within the hospital. Selected candidates will be matched with departments, which will determine their accountabilities. The PPA will assist in the delivery of direct, non-licensed patient care in accordance with established methods and procedures, under the supervision and guidance of the assigned departmental leadership. Responsibilities: + Follows established procedures and departmental and system policies throughout the operational departments the Penn Pathway Associate will rotate through. + Maintains appearance of patient care areas and public areasProvides assistance to various surgical teams throughout the operating roomsManages equipment and inventory specific to the operating room (Wheel chairs, litters, IV poles and related equipment, hospital beds, elevators, operating room tables, OR lights, instrument stands, oxygen tanks, nitrogen tanks, tourniquet tanks, positioning equipment, environmental services equipment, trash compactors/chutes + Facilitates and assists with patient transport and the transport of specimens and blood/blood products + Stock supplies to meet the needs of the departmentGreets new patients providing a brief explanation of services available + Ensures that patients have received a menu with their welcome packet and answers any questions patients may have while assisting them with placing their meal selections. + Utilizes a team approach with the Nursing Department to ensure patient satisfaction; assesses floor stock needs based upon established par levels, gathers and supplies each assigned area with the correct amount; rotates existing stock following the first in, first out method and discards any unlabeled or out of date items. + Provides protective escort for individuals and hospital property, as required + Properly labels specimens with 100% accuracy. + Draws all timed/scheduled samples in a timely manner. + Observes emotional and physical state of patient for any adverse reactions to phlebotomy. + Follows established procedures for the processing of biological specimens for analysis, and evaluates and solves problems related to that process. + Observes all Infection Control policies while handling specimens and disposes of infectious waste properly. + Researches phone inquiries regarding specimen collection or test results by referencing available manuals and records, and calls caller back promptly. + Understands collection requirements for special or referral testing, prepares specimens, ensure integrity and correctness of sample and arranges for dispatch and pick-up of specimens. + Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, and notifies Supervisor of the need to re-order before supplies run out. + Cleans equipment as requested and per protocol. + Performs daily temperature checks on rooms, refrigerators, freezers, incubators and preventive maintenance on centrifuges as needed.
