Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor Patient Access, ED Registration, this position is responsible for registering patients by obtaining individual identifying and demographic data for the patients' permanent medical record. The incumbent will maintain professionalism in the performance of all responsibilities within the department. This position will be required to register patients receiving services in all areas of the medical center in a timely manner. This position will minimize the financial risk of providing services by assessing the patient’s financial status, verifying and entering accurate patient information in our admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) system, obtaining signatures on all required hospital and regulatory forms and obtaining applicable patient payments prior to or at the time services are provided. Excellent customer service skills are utilized in all dealings with patients, family members, physician offices, third party payers and co-workers. Financial/insurance information is communicated to financial counseling staff when appropriate. Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to the hospital’s privacy and security policies at all times. This position ensures the appropriate documentation has been completed during the admission process.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Registration, billing, cash collections and/or third party/insurance payers and medical terminology experience preferred.

3. Ability to type accurately and efficiently is required.

4. Strong interpersonal communication, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.

5. Self-directed and ability to prioritize work in a stressful environment is required.

6. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written form is required.

7. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, bias for action, adaptable to change and willingness to take initiative on daily activities is required.

8. Ability to gather, analyze and display data in appropriate format and keep accurate records is required

9. Intermediate skills with business computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email, scheduling program, and admission software system is preferred

10. Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal and commercial insurance plans and requirements is preferred.

11. Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) is preferred.

Pay Range: $21.00 - $27.54
