Patient Access Representative

In this role, you will travel to various UPMC outpatient offices within Allegheny County and Cranberry to work a variety of shifts Sunday through Saturday and during daylight hours. Shifts are 8.5 hours, typically between 7:00am and 6:00pm (although rare, occasional shifts can start as early as 5:00am). Your first six months will be floating on the mobile team with the potential to be placed at one location after six months. As a Patient Access Representative, you will coordinate patient access for all phases of the revenue cycle, from scheduling and pre-registration, up to and including referral and denial management. Apply today! **Responsibilities:** + Collect appropriate documentation for managed care programs regarding referrals and authorizations. + Routinely attend department meetings and on-going in-service and training programs, to present and exchange pertinent information. + Understand UPMC 72-hour appointment requirement and work to ensure guidelines are met. + Schedule appointments according to the physician templates for similar types of physicians, generally at one office or multiple session timeshares (single specialty phone room or front desk environment). + Obtain and update demographic, next-of-kin, and insurance information, including referrals/authorizations on all patients as needed. + Schedule appointments according to the templates/departmental scripts while meeting business unit scheduling accuracy requirements. + Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient. + Interview and pre-register patients at the time of or prior to the visit date. Input patient information into the computer to initiate a medical record and a bill. + Collect and records patient payments at time of service. + Generate and complete all applicable forms and necessary communications. + Appropriately distribute/triage phone calls to other areas and/or clinical providers (billing, nurse, operations lead, etc.). + Assist with administrative duties in the office including but not limited to scanning of medical records and faxing. + Obtain signature of patient or family member for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations. + Maintain working knowledge of all required computer systems. + Support and contribute to UPMC service excellence mission and abide by all UPMC departmental policies, procedures and goals in the process of performing all job responsibilities. + Confirm/Verify insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via on-line verification systems or telephone inquiries. + Respect patient confidentiality and withholds restrictive information according to HIPAA guidelines. + Completion of High School graduate or equivalent. + Experience with personal computer-based applications and other various office equipment with proficient typing skills. + Two years of experience in a medical/billing/fiscal or customer service function preferred. + Medical terminology and third-party health care coverage experience preferred. + Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills. + Initiative to work productively with minimum supervision. + Able to work well under pressure. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + Act 31 + Act 33 Child Abuse + Act 34 Criminal Clearance + Act 73 FBI **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
