Job Summary:
A Patient Accounts Specialist for Physician Services functions as a medical coder, insurance specialist, financial counselor, and an accounts receivable clerk. Responsible for the counseling of patients prior to, during and post treatments to ensure that the account gets paid. Reviews all charges for coding accuracy, must have an understanding of billing, secondary and tertiary insurances, assists with patient registration is needed, and schedules and preauthorizes procedures and surgeries as needed.
Job Duties:
Greet patients with a positive, friendly attitudeUpdate patient information in electronic practice management system, such as demographics, insurance and meaningful use criteria. Obtain any needed consents, and insurance/payment authorizations Electronically verify specific insurance eligibility and obtains benefit information from carriersCollect and post any co-payments or time of service payments.Schedule needed office appointmentsScanning of documents into the electronic health recordCover’s front desk registration duties when neededEnters/reviews charges on daily basis including CPT, ICD-9 coding, modifiers to assure all costs associated with the patient’s visits are captured.Notifies the provider when patient chart completion is non-compliant.Upload reviewed superbills to Athena RCMMinimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements
High school graduate with courses in business, computers, bookkeeping and accounting, or comparable experience.One year of physician practice office experience preferred. Specific experience with medical insurance billing, coding, scheduling, and payment procedures desired. CPC certification preferred.Possess and demonstrate the necessary communication skills, initiative, tact, diplomacy and resourcefulness, dependability and judgment to perform the extreme variety of duties with this position.Ability to shift focus quickly and effectively from one job function to another, and deal with frequent interruptions, while staying on track.Command of English language with good spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.Pleasant speaking voice with the ability to communicate well with the public. Able to work as part of a productive, energetic and enthusiastic team.Must be precise, concise and concentrate on details.Ability to solve problems and seek resolutions.Critical Demands of the Job
Moderate physical effort (Lift/carry up to 45 lbs). Must be able to sit approximately 70% of the day as required. Must be able to type/keyboard at least 60% of the day as required. Must be able to open file cabinet drawers using push/pull force.
Working ConditionsSmall work area with lots of activity. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances Occasional stress due to multiple calls and inquires.
