OverviewThe Patient Advocate is administratively responsible for resolving patient and family concerns and grievances according to regulatory agency standards. Part of the healthcare team, a designated liaison between patients, families, visitors and hospital staff and administration. Facilitate communication and involve staff in resolving issues related to the hospital experience by establishing an avenue for negotiation to occur. Investigate patient and family concerns and collaborate with Risk Manager regarding care issues and/or possible litigation. A member of the Staff Advocacy Team. Crisis intervention responder to disruptive patients, families, and visitors. Maintain documentation and provide trending information for use in quality improvement activities. Promote compliance with patient rights and responsibilities, as well as patient/family centered care.

Investigate patient/family concerns and collaborate with Risk Manager regarding care issues and/or possible litigation.Prepare grievances for weekly meeting with the Grievance Committee. Collaborate with Risk Manager regarding cases with possible legal and financial risks to the hospital. Identify grievances to present to the Executive Grievance Committee for discussion and decision of resolution/compensation. Respond in writing, or ensure proper response in writing when necessary, in accordance with hospital Grievance Policy. Identify grievances for recommendation for referral to appropriate Quality Improvement and Peer Review Committees.Utilize the established computerized documentation process for daily contacts, case files, grievance committee, and meal ticket vouchers. Identify opportunities to increase the efficiency of the documentation process. Compose letters or emails to patients/families according to the terms of the Hospital Grievance Policy, assuring grammatical accuracy.Provide oversight and education of the Hospital Grievance Policy. Promote compliance with patient rights and responsibilities, as well as patient/family centered care.Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years' experience. Preferred experience in social work, counseling, nursing, education, mediation, or human resources experience would qualify.Healthcare experience preferred.

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $24.31/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.
Remote Work/Work from Home
This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
