Job Summary:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.The Patient Care Aide performs a variety of tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, cleaning instruments, stocking treatment areas, escorting patients in and out of exam rooms, acting as chaperone, transporting patients, delivering and collecting items, and miscellaneous clerical duties such as ordering supplies and printing off electronic patient materials from a computer.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Directs, transports and escorts patients within the area and also to and from areas within the centre or other departments.
2. Cleans and stocks examining rooms and other designated areas with necessary supplies.
3. Cleans, sterilizes and maintains instruments and equipment as directed.
4. Performs general service duties including picking up and delivering items such as files, reports, messages, requisitions, specimens or supplies, answering telephones, and photocopying documents.
5. Assists patients with changing into and out of gowns as necessary.
6. Relays patient concerns and information to appropriate member of the health care team.
7. Measures blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, routine oxygen saturation levels and patient weight and height and documents on patient chart.
8. Monitors and tracks patient flow in and out of exam rooms, and communicates patients’ location to the health care team.
9. Assists with and accompanies patient during physical examinations, where appropriate.
10. Orders supplies from Stores and Purchasing utilizing on-line ordering system.
11. Accesses and prints out electronic patient education and other materials.
12. Compiles and distributes appointment lists.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 10, plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registered with BC Care Aide Community Health Worker Registry.
