Position Starts at 19.00 an hour

 

The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for performing basic supportive care to specified patients/families under the direction and supervision of an RN/Care Manager. Collects, documents, and reports data to the RN Care Manager but does not interpret data. Demonstrates competence in providing age-appropriate care and service for pediatric patients from birth to 21 years, and selected adults.

Responsibilities

-Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary.

-Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as: blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, heights, and weights. Completes screening questions and documents all items into medical record.

-Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing. Holds, positions patients and assists with procedures. Preps all materials and supplies as needed.

-Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information.

-Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.

-Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate. Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit. Acts as a preceptor of orientation and training of other PCA staff.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. High school graduate or equivalent GED.

2. State Tested Nursing Assistant strongly preferred OR one year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years. Nursing student can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program

4. Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

5. Basic computer skills i.e. navigation, use of mouse, keyboard

6. Neat appearance, good grooming and professional manner.

7. Completion of orientation classes offered by Nationwide Children's Hospital Department of Professional Development and the unit/area.

8. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.

9. Current CPR (BLS for Healthcare Provider required).

 

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read, and perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide), and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.

2. Applies the principles of body mechanics in lifting or moving patients and/or equipment.

3. Must be able to independently lift up to 35 pounds.

4. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
