Patient Care Assistant II 3E Progressive Care FT Nights
Overview

As a Patient Care Assistant at CHI Saint Joseph Health you’ll help our patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with their basic daily life activities.

Your success in this role comes from your genuine desire to help patients feel better, whether that means giving them fresh bed linens or checking their vitals. You’re diligent about your tasks, observant of patients’ conditions improving or declining, and accept coaching well. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

Check-in with the outgoing patient care assistant at the beginning of your shift to get a report on your patients.Conduct hourly rounds checking vitals, maintaining whiteboard information, and assisting with care as needed.Assist patients with ambulating as necessary. This may mean helping them reach a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom, or down the hall. Assist released patients in getting safely to their vehicles outside.Assist patients with hygiene needs. This can include a full bed bath, an assisted bed bath, or retrieving towels and soap for ambulatory patients.Assist the bedside nurse as needed such as: holding the patient or providing the nurse with supplies, and cleaning up after.Help the bedside nurse with any wound checks or dressing changes. Change bed linens, check patients’ weight, other tasks as assigned each day.

Responsibilities
Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning Functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff2. Monitors and records vital signs3. Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs4. Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output5. Obtains and records daily weight6. Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter7. Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN8. Performs as patient care companion when needed9. Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process10. Performs unit housekeeping needs11. Acts as a runner/transporter12. Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel13. Updates assigned bed status14. Maintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones and alerting the correct person.15. Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, no food or drink at the workstation, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions16. Communicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner17. Qualifications

Required Education:

High School Diploma, GED or SRNA

Required Licensure and Certifications:

BLS via the American Heart Association

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

Healthcare experience preferred
