Job Description

Provides administrative support to patient care area(s) and quality patient care services under supervision of a licensed professional. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician or nursing student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation or 1 year of clinical hospital experience1 year of experience in pediatrics

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross equivalent within 30 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must satisfactorily complete all skills and requirementsCompetencies as defined by department must be completed within 6 months of employmentExcellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated leadership abilities and documentation of ongoing development and trainingMust be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

Provides administrative support to unit by answering telephones and nurse call system, taking messages, routing calls, or notifying appropriate individual(s), printing and posting on-call schedules, checking/sending faxes, assigning/distributing/retrieving Ascom phones, assisting with developing/modifying staff schedules, maintaining/reconciling patient census in computer system, and performing quality control audits of electronic medical records.Assists licensed professional nurse with admission, transfer, and discharge process by maintaining/verifying patient information in computer system, assigning and setting beds for new patients, ensuring code sheets and patient identification/allergy bands are in room and necessary paperwork is in the patient chart, and updating patient boards.Assists with basic delivery of patient care (e.g., medical and laboratory procedures, nutritional needs, daily activities, and transporting patients) as assigned by licensed professional and using age and developmentally appropriate standards.Provides coverage at nursing station during critical periods, e.g., assessments and rounds.Provides and documents continuous visual monitoring of suicidal patients and patients at risk as assigned by licensed professional nurse and using age and developmentally appropriate standards.Orders and maintains department and patient care equipment and unit supplies as assigned using established standards.Communicates information relating to job activities, needs, and responsibilities for assigned shift in prioritizing and delivery of patient care and administrative support.Assists and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of quality of care and services provided.Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, ALL = all age.Ensures customers receive the best service possible by rounding on patients and families to ensure needs are being met and concerns are satisfactorily resolved.
