Patient Care Tech Observation Unit

Job Description:

A Patient Care Associate has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs

This position requires a current Montana CNA license

Our observation unit is a 15 bed unit with a wide variety of patients and diagnoses.  We care for patients presenting to the emergency dept who may not meet inpatient criteria, but providers do not feel comfortable discharging them home.  These patients present to our unit for further workup, diagnostic testing, and nursing care with the hopes of discharging with outpatient follow up or transitioning to an inpatient unit within 18-48 hours.  It is a great unit for learning and obtaining and perfecting skills. Our team is eager, excited, welcoming and we have excellent teamwork.  Within a year of employment staff are supported in becoming ACLS and NIH certified and we also offer opportunities to grow in other capacities such as becoming preceptors, team leaders, mentors, etc as well as many committee opportunities.   We would love to welcome you as part of our team!!

Scope:

Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of the care team.

Performs 12-lead EKG duties commensurate with the level of training received and competency.

Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician.

Performs wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.

​ Performs equipment and tube care/management e.g. JPs, chemovacs and nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal.

Assists with patient transfers, admissions and discharges as directed and in compliance with the principles of safe patient handling.

Orders and maintains office and patient care floor stock/supplies.

Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team.

Assist physicians and RNs as directed


Minimum Qualifications

Required

Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program

Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C N A ) in the state of practice Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval


Preferred

1+ years of previous experience in a health care setting

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$17.60 - $22.88
