Responsibilities

Performs delegated tasks of patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Utilizes skills which she/he has obtained in educational programs and/or orientation and has demonstrated competency. Participates actively a member of the patient care team.

The primary role of this position is to provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients via a video tele-monitoring system for patients located in an inpatient setting with an identified safety risk.  Video monitor bank PCTs can also be assigned to provide 1:1 hands-on patient care on any inpatient unit. Some of the job requirements include:

Participate in shift report with outgoing/oncoming staff.  Review pertinent patient information and behaviors.While sitting at a video monitor station, maintain visual observation of assigned patients at all times.Verbally redirect patients over 2-way audio device located in the patient room.  Communicate with patient and answer any questions within scope of practice – direct other questions to appropriate floor staff.Immediately summon the on-site clinical staff if the patient requires assistance or in the event of a patient safety issue. Collaborate with clinical co-workers to create a safe environment for patients. Computer skills are necessary for this position along with strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Provides excellent customer service – demonstrating professionalism and courtesy at all times. Maintains patient dignity and privacy. In addition to the video surveillance role, video monitor bank PCTs can also be assigned to 1:1 hands-on patient care on any inpatient unit.This position requires extended periods of sitting – in front of video monitor screens or in the patient rooms. Orientation consists of 4+ weeks of patient care tech (PCT) training alongside a PCT preceptor with a full patient assignment and 2+ weeks of video monitor bank training. Participates actively as a member of the patient care team and works under the scope of a PCT at all times. 

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.  Patient Care Experience preferred.  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
