Under the supervision of an RN, assists in the delivery of age specific patient care, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides basic nursing care. Maintains a safe and clean environment and promotes the efficiency of the nursing team. Is actively involved in the therapeutic milieu and treatment planning. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
1. Receives report on patients and completes patient care assignments within the time frame designated by the RN. Duties include:
a. Observing, reporting, and recording patient behaviors and interactive dynamics.
b. Obtaining vital signs.
c. Assisting with delivery of physical care and hygiene as needed.
d. Interacting therapeutically with patients.
e. Actively participating in the therapeutic milieu.
2. Is observant of patients' condition and communicates observations to the RN or team leader.
3. Orders, stocks and maintains equipment and supplies in specific departments.
4. Utilizes cost control measures, i.e.: conservative use of supplies and accurate charging systems.
5. Clerical duties as assigned by unit management.
6. Answer telephones, intercoms, taking and conveying messages appropriately. Placing calls as directed.
7. Performs or prepares procedures; Obtains supplies and equipment.
8. Assists in orienting and precepting staff as directed.
9. Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by responsible RN to changing patients'/unit's needs. During a patient or environmental emergency, may serve as a runner or transport patients.
10. Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.
11. Accurately and legibly records data collected and notifies RN of any untoward events, i.e., behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc.
12. Makes patient rounds, providing for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction. Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
13. Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.
14. Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
15. Offers consistent and visible support to team members.
16. Complies with all hospital rules, regulations, and nursing standards.
17. Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patients, families, significant others, and other health care members.
18. Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Commitments.
19. Responds to Shore Regional Health emergency codes as appropriate.
20. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
21. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
22. Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including, transport, storage, and security of medications to include IV solutions.
23. Performs related duties as assigned. Certification in Basic Life Support.

QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent.Certified Nursing Assistant license required with successful completion of Nursing Assistant training program.Meets requirements to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Maryland.Must have and maintain all applicable certifications per department requirements within six months of hire.One year of patient care experience required.The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/here age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department's policies and procedures.Additional Information
