UPMC Altoona is looking for a casual Patient Care Technician, Nursing Student to work on 7E Neurology!
*Candidates will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on experience (Nursing Assistant, Nursing Student or Patient Care Technician, Nursing Student).
Responsibilities:
Provides patient care, including assisting with patient procedures, activities of daily living, and therapies (physical, respiratory, cardiopulmonary). Performs core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four of these tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal. Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates effectively with other departments, and maintains professional, respectful relationships. Contributes to unit activities, including responding to call lights and phones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. Receives feedback constructively, identifies and communicates learning needs, and improves knowledge, skills, and performance. Provides patient and family instructions under RN direction and manages patient restraints as per protocol. Communicates clearly with the healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, supports workplace safety, and maintains productive relationships. Strictly adheres to all patient care and safety policies and procedures. Suggests and supports departmental changes, assumes responsibility for assignments, and supports departmental projects and quality initiatives. Documents in medical records according to procedures and performs assigned work in a timely manner, including clerical functions as needed. Achieves and maintains competency in one or more advanced skills: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.
