Patient Care Technician, TNICU

UPMC Hamot is hiring a patient care technician to join our Trauma Neuro ICU Unit! This position is full-time, shifts ranging from 7pm-7am and 7am-7pm. _Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience._ **Responsibilities:** + Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily living activities. + Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provides feedback to RN and reports changes in patient status. + Performs core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care). + Performs at least four additional tasks (phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal). + Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate department. + Communicates effectively with other departments and maintains professional relationships. + Contributes to unit activities (responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients). + Receives feedback and direction constructively, identifies learning needs, and improves skills. + Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, applies and removes restraints as needed. + Communicates clearly with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, supports workplace safety. + Adheres to all patient care policies and safety procedures. Supports department changes, projects, and quality initiatives. + Documents in medical records, performs clerical functions as needed. + Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills (phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tubes clamping/removal). + Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. + High school diploma or equivalent. + Must also have either: + 1 year of general healthcare experience. + 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion. + Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation. + Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field. + Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. Successful completion of basic information system training. + Microcomputer experience preferred. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. + Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification preferred, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program. + Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Act 34 + ACLS preferred **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran** **If you would like to discuss this opportunity with a Recruiter for Hamot Inpatient Nursing and Nursing Support, reach out to Jill Schlosser at schlosserj4@upmc.edu**
