GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician/Health Unit Coordinator/Certified Nursing Assistant (PCT/HUC/CNA) is responsible to perform duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Registered nurse in compliance with established process standards, structure standards and protocols of the assigned unit. The (PCT/HUC/CNA) works in cooperation with all team members in an effort to accomplish departmental goals and objectives. The (PCT/HUC/CNA) role is multi-disciplined. When assigned as a PCT, the primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost effective care. When assigned as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), primary function is to perform clerical duties and surveillance of arrhythmia monitors.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assists with safe and appropriate delegated patient care tasks which are directly supervised by a RN.
· Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the human experience in a collaborative fashion with other team members. Assists care team in achieving daily patient and family goals.
· Provides quality patient care, including comfort and hygiene measures, preventative skin care, safety measures, transport, and nutritional and elimination needs.
· Promptly triages and responds to patient call lights.
· Reports patient status changes and needs to RN accurately and in a timely manner.
· Demonstrates effective use of clinical strategies to insure patient and associate safety.
· Communicates concerns regarding hazards or errors related to patients to the health care team.
· Uses Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) communication techniques.
· Accurately documents vital signs, input/output, nutritional intake, personal hygiene, weights and other patient care performed and reports findings promptly to RN.
· Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· High school graduate or GED required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Minimum of one year healthcare nursing assistant (CNA) clinical experience
· Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Program
· Previous nursing unit secretary or medical office experience
· Student in RN nursing program who as completed at least three hospital clinical rotation will be considered.
· Basic arrhythmias identification course prior to starting.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
· Current state CNA license for applicable state of employment
