About the job:
Patient Financial Specialist I; Ensures the collection of accurate and complete registration/admission information and completion of required forms for all patients. Ensures collections of patient deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance and deposits. Gathers and evaluates confidential patient financial data for purposes of determining patient qualification for financial assistance and/or patient financial responsibility. Collects payments and facilitates resolution of billing questions. Acts as an information resource to other departments and physician offices. Understands relation between diagnosis and procedure using CPT and ICD-9 coding to ensure compliance with third party regulations. Understands Medicare, Medicaid and other third party information requirements and adheres to all third party regulations. Abides by all pertinent legislation regarding use/disclosure of medical and financial information, debt collection and credit reporting. Establishes payment arrangements for patients and evaluates past account history. Abides by the department Service vision.
What you will do:
Validates medical necessity, obtains signed physician orders.Performs activities related to registration and financial clearance for multiple patient types.Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification and need for pre-certifications if required.Counsels patient on financial liability.Assists patient for applicable funding sources. Adheres to hospital policies and protocolProactively communicates with all staff members in an accurate and timely mannerStrives to meet or exceed the expectations of patients, visitors, and other staff members in the spirit of quality and excellence.Participates in and fosters a performance improvement approach that includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities.May serve as relief support to peers, if work schedule permits. Relief functions include, but are not limited to Scheduling and Pre RegistrationWhat we are looking for:
High School Diploma; Prefer an Associate’s Degree in HealthCare Administration, Business Administration or related field. High School Diploma or GED is required. Demonstrated experience may be used in lieu of degree.Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with peers, internal, and external customers. Accuracy, attentiveness to detail and time management skills are required. Prefer minimum of three years experience in a physician's office, clinic, hospital business office, financial service setting, or related area dealing with the public in collection of data and funds.Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology, and data entry skills.--
