These tasks include:
For Non-Patient Host Clerks
• Check and verify all beverages, hot foods, cold foods and condiments on the patient tray and loads the tray into the delivery cart.
• Communicate with Production staff concerning any issues with food items being served for Room Service.
• Reading and correcting patient menus based on their prescribed diet.
• Tallying items on the menus and communicating needs to the production staff in a timely manner.
• Placing items on patient trays as they are assembled on tray line and stocking coolers with patient meal items.
• Placing trays in carts and coordinating delivery with the hostess staff.
• Answering phone calls, using an iPad, and using a touch screen computer to track trays through the delivery process.
• Restocking items on the tray line including trays of proportioned food, cups, bulk food items, ice, and soda boxes.
• The checker maintains a clean and sanitary work environment and maintains equipment in clean, good working condition.
For Patient Serving Host Clerks
• Assist patients with ordering meals face to face with a variety of illnesses.
• Visits new admissions and explains the room service program.
• Reading menus to patients and assisting them with the room service ordering process by placing orders on the telephone or iPad.
• Communicate with nurses, doctors, and other staff on the units as appropriate.
• Deliver patient trays to the units and cut, open, and set up items as appropriate.
• Read and interpret diet orders and allergy information.
• Pick up trays and record patient meal intake.
• Verify the meal is delivered to the correct patient.
• Identify patients who require ordering assistance and communicate needs to the call center.
• Fill floor stock food items, formulas, tube feedings, and general supply items in the unit kitchens.
The host clerk will be required to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, push, and lift with items of various weights from 5 to 50 pounds. Some items may requiring bending, squatting, or lifting them overhead. The host clerk will also be responsible for pushing full carts of trays to the nursing units. The host clerk is required to walk or stand for the majority of an 8 hour shift. This position requires the host clerk to walk on hard surfaces that may be wet and may include uneven surfaces. To be successful, the host clerk is required to use customer service skills, phone etiquette, and organizational skills. The host clerk must be able to utilize multiple technical devices including iPads, iPhones, computers, and other technology devices. The host clerk must have basic therapeutic diet knowledge and have the ability to work unsupervised in a fast paced work environment.
