PATIENT REGISTRATION REPRESENTATIVE

Responsible for registering all patient types using established policy and procedures of the facility and communicate effectively with the patient/family, peers and all members of the health care team.  Obtains accurate demographic information from patients and/or family members, verifies all proper insurance information, secure managed care referrals, obtain appropriate signatures on all forms, and collects co-pays at the time of service.  Understands third party regulations, referrals, authorizations, Advance Beneficiary Notice, and Point of Service collections.

Essential Job Functions

Perform all patient registration area functions with a high degree of accuracy. Keep patient flow moving by registering in a timely manner. Verify insurances to maximize reimbursements. Identify insurances that require out-of-pocket expense and collect payment from patient and time of service. Complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices, referrals, and authorizations to secure payment. Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) 


Required Qualifications/Experience

High School Diploma, GED, or higher level of education. Typing and customer service experience. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.


Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Medical Terminology Previous registration experience.


License, Certification & Clearances

Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
