Patient Representative Radiation Oncology

Job Description:

The Patient Representative-Radiation Oncology facilitates effective clinic organization and patient care by serving as a communication link between the patients, staff, physicians, hospital departments or other outside health care entities. May perform a broad range of responsibilities including: receptionist, scheduler, patient registration, chart acquisition, and telephone triage. Establishes and maintains standards by promoting 'best practices' in the assigned area and provides coaching support for department team members as they strive for continuous process improvement. Must use critical thinking and problem solving skills and provide backup assistance as necessary to carry out daily operations.

Clinic Scheduling - Ensures effective and efficient clinic flow. Coordinates clinic schedule by effectively scheduling appointments, collaborating with team members to maintain appropriate clinic load, and appropriately accommodating special needs. Identifies need and resources to accommodate expanded clinic time as necessary. Ensures effective appointment confirmation process.Records/Charts - Establishes and maintains complete, accurate and timely medical records and other program documents in accordance with hospital, departmental, legal, and professional requirements.Reporting - Develops and maintains systems for data management to meet requirements. Ensures accurate data entry for reporting to internal and external consumers of the information.Patient Contact - May perform patient care duties within scope of licensure.Correspondence - Creates correspondence to families, insurance providers, and others within requested timeframe and develops other program documents as required.Compliance/Quality - Ensures compliance with departmental, clinic and corporate policies, procedures and best practices. Identifies and appropriately manages compliance with regulations mandated by various federal, state or accrediting agencies. Identifies and implements best practices to ensure effective and efficient clinic operation.Safety - Demonstrates focus on safety, adhering to all applicable safety standards including the National Patient Safety Goals and is pro-active in identifying and correcting unsafe practices and conditions.Physician Relations - Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with physician(s). Utilizes chain of command appropriately.Supplies - Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment to meet clinic requirements. Orders supplies and equipment necessary for patient care. Prepares accurate requisitions for stock supplies and individual patient charges.Community Stewardship/Education - Understands and actively engages in their assigned role for a disaster response. Is flexible with work schedule and assignments to support patient care needs. May also: 1) participate and manage community educational activities and 2) contribute to positive student experiences in the clinic or facility and actively supports student learning as appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications

One year staff or customer service leadership experience utilizing computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications, email, appointment scheduling, registration, billing, and electronic medical records.Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and work independently on projects.Demonstrated general office skills (i.e. typing, faxing, and filing).


Preferred Qualifications

CNA or Medical Assistant certificationProvider BLS certification.Experience in a clinic coordinator or similar role including: scheduling, reception, medical records, filing, Medical Terminology and telephone triage.Spanish speaking/interpreter skills

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$17.34 - $22.54
