Patient Safety Attendant

Description:Under direct supervision, is responsible for one-on-one continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patient. Remains with and observes always assigned patient and notifies the nursing staff if the patient requires additional assistance or other nursing intervention.

Schedule:

3 x 12 hour night shifts, every other weekend, every other holiday

What you will do:

1.    Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. 
2.    Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.
3.    Receives shift change report from RN, previous Patient Safety Attendant and/or CNA regarding patients’ anticipated behavior and safety risks.  Hands off information to the next shift RN, Patient Safety Attendant or CNA.
4.    Introduces self to patients/families and explains that they are there to assist in maintaining a safe environment.
5.    Remains with and always observes the assigned patient.  Arranges meal and break time with the patient’s RN or CNA so that the patient is never unattended.
6.    Serves meal to patients. Does not feed patient. May cut up foods and open containers.


Minimum Qualifications:

1.    Completion of high school or GED is preferred but is required if in emergency department or behavioral unit.  Prior patient care experience preferred.
2.    Must be available to work on short notice.
3.    Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
4.    Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
5.    Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
