JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Safety Manager has the responsibility and accountability for directing, managing, or overseeing the patient safety program at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper facilities as assigned. As such, provides leadership and strategic direction in developing a culture of safety in identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. This role will coordinate with leaders to develop and monitor the patient safety program which includes a strategic and operational plan to enhance patient safety. The patient safety manager will design and implement ongoing education to facilitate understanding and implementation of patient safety standards and principles. This leadership role will coordinate efforts with leaders towards process improvements that will support the reduction of unintended adverse patient outcomes.

Effectively uses various technology communication methods to keep stakeholders informed of progress of projects and/or issues. QUALIFICATIONS
Education: 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree required. Graduate Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare required. Quality improvement experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Knowledge of risk management principles and issues regarding patient safety. Superior interpersonal skills. Strong leadership qualities (i.e., management, organizational, analytical, and relationship development). Effective written and oral communication and facilitation skills. Clinical knowledge and background. Ability to identify and implement patient safety initiatives. Understanding of change management. Ability to build teams. Creative, self-motivated, and critical thinking.
