Patient Safety Manager -RN
**JOB SUMMARY** The Baylor Scott & White Health Patient Safety Manager provides leadership and expertise by establishing a culture of safety that minimizes hazards and patient harm by applying the BSWH Safety and Quality Plan: Guiding Principles. The Patient Safety Manager oversees the event reporting system and collaborates with internal and external teams to analyze findings and works collaboratively to develop programs that enhance an organizational culture that supports Zero Preventable Harm. An important aspect of the patient safety manager position is the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with individuals and large groups at all levels of the organization to support measurable improvements in patient safety in both process and outcome. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE** In collaboration with the BSWH Vice President of Patient Safety and the Director of Patient Safety, the PS Manager is responsible for identifying opportunities, implementing safety programs, and promoting a Culture of Safety using evidence-based practice. These programs include, and are not limited to: Making demonstrable progress toward supporting the major cultural characteristics of organizations that are highly reliable. Collaboration and engagement with Risk Management, Quality Improvement and Infection Prevention as well as other key stakeholders, to assure seamless integration of activities with OPS. Provides leadership and direction to the organizational patient safety strategy. Continuously evaluates and improves the patient safety program based on internal and external analysis and standards. Develops strong working relationships with facility-based Patient Safety Officers (PSO) by supporting appropriate audit strategies, electronic data extraction, expert observation, focus groups, and other evidence-based processes to obtain relevant information to improve care and culture of safety. Administratively responsible for the oversight, planning, managing, and maintaining the comprehensive safety event data collection and management system. This includes collaboration with both internal and external teams to ensure the system is working as intended, as well as accurate data reports, analysis, and reporting of trends to the Patient Safety Committee and other key stakeholders as appropriate. Develops and provides training for BSWH Adverse Event platform on a routine basis. Provides support and guidance to the BSWH Patient Safety Committee. **KEY SUCCESS FACTORS** Must be Registered Nurse RN Must acquire one of the following certifications within 2 years of hire or transfer into PSM role: Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or, Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM). 5 years’ experience in patient safety, healthcare quality, or risk management role.
