**Job Summary:**
The Patient Services Representative will serve as the main point of contact for all patients and the community. This position will receive and process patient referral, patient registration, verifying demographics, obtaining insurance cards and identification, and updating medical records accurately and efficiently. In addition, the Patient Services Representative responsibilities will include scheduling appointments, transcribing orders, explaining financial options to patients, and updating medical records accurately and efficiently.
**Job Functions**
+ Serves as the primary point of contact between patients and physician practices.
+ Answers phone in a manner consistent with practice policy, routes calls, schedules patients, and enters necessary information for patient scheduling into the computer system in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Processes patients in practice as they present for their appointments. Records time indicators for lobby wait times.
+ Collects missing information from the patient, verifies insurance coverage and collects necessary co-pays and/or collection balances from patients.
+ Balances patient charges and reconciles cash drawer at the close of the day.
+ Responsible for proper coding, inputting and processing of fee slips as patients leave the practices. Schedules follow-up appointment and/or assists with scheduling other services for patients.
+ Assists patients in obtaining necessary referrals for follow-up services and record referrals on tracking tool (referral/consults). Also responsible for obtaining proper authorizations and pre-certifications for all outside procedures scheduled through the physician practice.
+ Pulls patient charts as needed per office policy, files information as appropriate in chart per policy, and routes charts to clinical staff as indicated in office per policy.
+ Per protocol, verify RX benefits in connect care.
+ Performing scanning activities for assigned team within practice.
+ Performs all assigned duties in a manner consistent with appropriate customer service requirements and in support of Bon Secours ethics and values.
+ Understands and performs individual role in assuring compliance for regulatory, accreditation and system process.
+ Work "Hold Bucket/Missing Tickets" daily ensure end of month compliance.
+ Maintains communication with Site Coordinator / Practice Manager on daily basis.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Must travel to Suffolk office 1-2x a month
**Qualifications**
+ Candidates must possess excellent communication skills as well as knowledge of medical practice operations.
+ Work requires interpersonal skills necessary to function as liaison between physicians, office staff and the patients and their family members.
+ Must be able to handle a fast-paced environment in a confident, professional manner.
+ Must be a self-motivator, possessing a high level of judgment skills and initiative, along with ability to prioritize and coordinate several tasks
**Education:**
+ High School Degree or GED
**Experience:**
+ Prior experience in the healthcare field or a related area is preferred but not required
+ Knowledge of medical terminology preferred but not required
+ Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Cadence, and Connect care preferred but not required
**Skills & Abilities:**
+ Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, 40 WPM typing skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
+ Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
+ Basic math skills
