Patient Services Representative - Meridian ( Northgate)

Purpose 

The Patient Services Representative (PSR) will greet and check-in medical and/or dental patients at the time of appointment, as well as schedule patient appointments through the check-out process. As the first point of contact in the clinic for the patient, the PSR will provide a warm welcome to patients and their families and serve as an information resource for people who arrive at the clinic. PSRs will be an integral part of the clinic team, participating in population health management and care coordination efforts that ultimately result in high quality patient care.

In this position you will:

Warmly greet patients and their families as they arrive in the clinic.  Answers telephones, confirms appointments, and transfer calls to appropriate staff member, as needed.  Check in patients, including providing appropriate forms and collecting updated patient information (e.g., phone, address, insurance) to enter into the EHR.
Assists with maintaining provider templates and appointment schedules, as needed.  Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient concerns and refers patient to appropriate designated personnel, as needed.
Practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with clinical policies and HIPAA requirements.  Maintains patient waiting areas, office files, and front-desk areas in a manner that is organized and neat.
Prepares charts and accounts on a daily basis as applicable.  Checks insurance eligibility and scan Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance cards.
Collects co-pays and fees as needed, including closeout of drawer at the end of the day. Provides registration form and instructions to new patients and those who haven’t been seen in last year, assisting if necessary.  Schedules walk-in patients for same day appointments.  Connects patients to insurance eligibility services, as needed.  Explains Neighborcare’s sliding scale policy to self-pay patients, verify income information; entering it appropriately into EHR.
As necessary, requests an Interpreter to assist patient(s).  Prepares clinic to open and close for business in a timely manner, in accordance with the clinic’s posted schedule.  Reconciles fee slips and run reports at end of shift or throughout day.
Responds to emergent needs and assist teams by calling taxis, ambulance, etc.  Partners with other members of the clinic team to ensure patients are receiving the needed services, including participating in huddles and all-staff meetings.
Communicates effectively with clinic team members via the EHR and in-person.
Performs day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including but not limited to word processing, copying, filing, faxing, and data entry.  Complies with the Neighborcare risk management, compliance, and information security program requirements, including accurate and timely reporting of all adverse incidents Demonstrates professional demeanor in appearance/ behavior in all work-related interactions.  Participates in and completes required organizational training programs, including annual. afety training and HIPAA and Compliance training.

Required qualifications:

High School diploma or GED

Preferred qualifications 

One (1) year of customer service experience One (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting Bilingual skills

Compensation

The wage range for this position is: Minimum $19.97 up to $26.18 maximum. Compensation will be determined based on years of relevant experience.
