A Patient Service Representative needs to have strong organizational skills along with the ability to think on their feet when faced with new situations that arise throughout each day within a professional medical environment.\n
\n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n\nCheck in patients upon arrival.\nVerify\/Update patient demographics.\nScan insurance cards.\nObtain signatures on required forms (HIPAA, etc.).\nUpdate status in Medent (arrived, waiting, etc.).\nCollect outstanding balances and co-pays.\nAssist with additional scheduling such as labs, x-rays, procedures or testing; send orders.\nTake messages or triage phone calls.\nSchedule patient appointments.\nInitiate paperwork for insurance referrals and pre-authorizations.\nMail new patient questionnaire.\nPrint schedules for the next day.\nPlace provider meetings in Medent.\nAppointment confirmation calls in some offices.\nCheck out patient and print CVS.\nResponsible for daily cash out and bank deposit.\nTurn phones over to\/from answering service.\nAnswer\/direct incoming phone calls; triage as appropriate.\nMake appointments over the phone with appropriate provider.\nPlace new and returning patients in provider schedule according to office protocols\/provider template.\nMake follow up appointments.\nOpen\/organize templates for providers.\nAssist with physician meeting scheduling (in some practices).\nCall for insurance referrals and pre-authorizations.\nSend email to patients with regard to patient portal.\nIn smaller offices, duties may also include:\nRecords releases.\nMonitor fax tank and scan records.\n\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nHigh School diploma or equivalent\nPrevious medical office experience preferred\nCollege level training\/education in a healthcare support field preferred\nPrevious EMR use\/training helpful\nExcellent customer service and problem-solving ability\nAbility to think through potential solutions to issues\nGood time management and prioritization skills\nGood computer skills - Medent and Microsoft Office are utilized.\n\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nSitting-- 90%\nStanding-- 10%\nReaching-- 50%\nBending-- 20%\nLifting-- must be able to lift 25 lb.\n\n
\n

Location and Travel Requirements:\n\nOnsite \nCHS Ithaca Mall, 40 Catherwood Rd, Ithaca\n7:30 am - 5:30 pm M - F, hours vary by weekly staff rotation.\n\n

Pay Range Disclosure:\n\n$18 to $22.00 per hour\n\n
