Job Overview:

Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel. Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties. Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients. Adheres to universal infection control practices. Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees.

Qualifications:

Must have excellent communications skills

Scheduling Requirements

Shift: Part-Time Evening 4PM 11PM Every other weekend and holidayDays to work vary

Essential Functions:

Accepts jobs in a timely manner.Places self in progress within 5 minutes of receiving a job assignment Uses judgment in extending a 5-minute grace period in waiting for patientsNotifies dispatcher of delaysNotifies system of job complete statusContacts dispatcher within 3 - 5 minutes if no job is receivedAdvises nurse, nurse designee or technician when arriving at units and testing areaIntroduces self to patientThe transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting the patient's name and date of birth.Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versaUse caution when rounding cornersEnsures brakes are used when transferring from a stretcher and/or a wheelchairMaintains confidentiality of patient informationIdentifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or securityRecognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technicianAlways follow infection control and handwashing precaution before, during and after a transport
