Under general supervision, Patient Transporter is responsible for providing patient transport services between departments and the exam rooms and lobby in the department. Transport services include use of a variety of equipment to include but not limited to wheelchairs, and as well as, Oxygen canisters, drains, walkers, crutches, canes, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) etc. during the transport process. The Patient Transporter may provide patient instruction on preparations and/or restrictions for x-ray in accordance with established policies and procedures within scope of practice.
Essential Job Functions
•Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviors
in communication with patient/resident, families, visitors, physicians, staff
and others.
•Utilizes good judgment in providing transport and other
assistance as deemed appropriate while ensuring all patient/guest needs are
met.
•Communicates with families and guests who are waiting
for information on patients in Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
•Transports patient within the department or between
buildings utilizing, gurneys, wheelchairs, assistive devises and DME. During
transport process, also manages additional patient care equipment such as
Oxygen canisters, pumps, VACs, drains, etc.
•Accounts for inventory of the department wheelchairs,
Assistive Devices gait belts and DME.
•Ensures adequate equipment is available in the
department. Oversees routine cleaning of all patient transport equipment
between transfers.
•Utilizes computerized information systems to look up
information pertinent to the performance of the department patient procedures.
•Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues
and initiates appropriate action.
•Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess
and improve quality.
•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and
development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
•Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the
needs of the department/organization.
