Payments Business Strategy Manager

The Payments Platform Cost Optimization & Tax (PPCOT) team is responsible for designing and building eBay’s next generation payments platform. Our goal is to create outstanding customer experiences, enabling buyers and sellers to connect and conduct transactions seamlessly on the world’s largest marketplace.

You will play a key role in partnering with internal teams and external organizations to enhance globally payment strategies, focusing on buyer conversion, seller enablement, and optimizing cost and risk performance. Your extensive experience in global ecommerce payments, coupled with exceptional analytical skills, will enable you to synthesize data from diverse sources and make informed recommendations, even when data is incomplete. With strong business intuition, you will guide your analysis and collaborate effectively both independently and across functions.

Your responsibilities will include leading the development and execution of payment strategies, working closely with teams in product, engineering, analytics, regions, and other departments to bring solutions to life. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of payment systems, industry trends, and emerging technologies, with the ability to design and implement solutions that enhance our payment processes and improve customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement comprehensive payment strategies that align with business objectives and drive revenue growth

Conduct thorough research and analysis of global payment trends, technologies, and competitor strategies to inform strategic decisions and identify optimization opportunities 

Build robust cases supported by detailed analysis to drive decision making and critical initiatives

Create and document business requirements, policies and procedures essential for driving the strategic vision

Analyze and define key payment metrics, identify actionable optimizations, and enhance the customer experience and payments performance

Work closely with product managers, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful implementation of payment initiatives

Oversee planning, execution, performance analysis, and continuous optimization of payment capabilities

Develop and present reports on payment performance, industry trends, and opportunities for improvement to management

Act as a liaison between vendors and internal teams to facilitate smooth operations and address any issues that arise

Preferred Qualifications

BS required, MBA preferred in finance, economics, business, information technology or a related field

3-5 years of experience in ecommerce, payments, investment banking, cross border, payment networks or related fields. Experience in FinTech is a plus

3+ years in product strategy, product management, and/or go-to-market roles

Strong eye for business combined with technical proficiency; capable of deep diving into technical aspects with product partners as needed

Deep understanding of global payments ecosystems, gateways, and cross border transactions

Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to payments

Ability to clearly articulate a vision, align key partners, and lead teams through influence

Proven success in managing and building relationships with both internal and external partners

Skilled in managing without direct authority and effectively influencing outside of the direct organization

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to provide actionable insights and recommendations based on customer feedback and analytics

Innovative thinking with a proactive approach to problem solving 

Ability to build financial models and perform scenario analyses

Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic work environment

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$106,800 - $162,800

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
