The anticipated salary range for this role is between $137,000.00 and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

We are seeking a Payments Engineer to be part of the Global Payment Applications Team within JRIA who is responsible for managing and maintaining the SWIFT Alliance platform.

This individual combines SWIFT Alliance expertise with middleware domain expertise. The Payments Engineer is fully knowledgeable about the functionality of the global payment messaging system utilized throughout the enterprise. This role collaborates with vendors, developers, and application managers to resolve performance issues, troubleshoot incidents, and complete application projects. Also coordinates all audit processes to comply with the bank’s internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Role Objectives

Completes Swift Alliance application projects or assigned tasks in accordance with defined project management methodology.

Manages vendors, negotiates, and defines initial contracts, resolves issues and provides ongoing communication.

Participates, where necessary in requirements gathering/elicitation, design and/or testing phases.

Resolves or assists in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; implements changes where applicable.

Supports coordination of all audit related activities to ensure regulatory compliance.

Works with and makes recommendations for globally distributed environments.

Prepares detailed specifications from which programs are developed and coded.

Communicates any Swift Alliance application issues to the business and management.

Performs impact analyses with development team to identify the impacted areas and develop the required test, test sets for the required build.

Ensures communications across multiple technical teams to prevent or solve performance issues.

Cross trains QA team on new functionality/enhancements for targeted builds.

Troubleshoots production issues and assists in the resolution of all application incidents in a timely fashion.

Provides Disaster Recovery Group (DRG) with application and system priority information.

Submit Change Requests (CRs) and Single Approver Changes (SACs) in ServiceNow platform as per the SMBC/JRIA Change Management Process.

Review, manage and address Incident/Problem tickets and IT Service Requests opened in ServiceNow. Open an incident/problem ticket in ServiceNow for tracking purposes when an issue is found and there is no existing ticket.

Perform tasks in accordance with any Service Level Agreements (SLAs), security policies and security procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

7+ years experience in banking and technology areas including functional knowledge of commercial banking systems.

Hands on experience and strong knowledge of Swift Applications (Swift Alliance Access (SAA), Swift Alliance Gateway (SAG, SWIFTNet Link (SNL), Alliance Web Platform (AWP), Alliance Warehouse (AWH), WebAccess applications, RMA Portal, GPI)Strong knowledge of ISO20022 and Swift Message(MT) Standards

Strong understanding of financial industry standards, regulations and protocols related to SWIFT.

Experience with Swift broadcast services and network connectivity management.

Hands on experience of Shell scripting and Unix environments.

Experience in working with the following a plus:
- Sanctions Screening applications integrated with SAA (particularly Fircosoft)
- IBM WebSphere MQ
- Swift Security (CSP)

Strong work ethic with focus on meeting deadlines, objectives, and ability to learn new products and systems in a timely manner.

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members.

Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.

Strong skills working with MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Visio, MS Teams & SharePoint, Atlassian JIRA & Confluence.

Bachelor's degree. Finance, Computer Science or Information Systems preferred.

Previous experience with Agile methodology preferred.
