The role:

Payments Strategy Manager is a role where you will have the opportunity to lead several cross-functional projects on payments, transaction expense and pricing strategy. You will bring both process and content leadership to strategic projects and act as the primary point person for product and finance teams for payments strategy. Within this role, you will have the ability to influence key elements of eBay’s payments and strategy and help shape the strategic direction of financial services at eBay. The ideal candidate has a track record of making pragmatic, concrete recommendations with real world implementation experience. It is critical for the role that the candidate has strong analytic skills and is excellent in developing creative/ out-of-the-box and well-thought-out solutions for challenging business problems.

 

Responsibilities

Payments Strategy Development and Analysis: Develop payments and financial services strategies and analysis for eBay to differentiate itself in the market. This will include crafting initiatives for optimizing payments transaction expense, pricing strategies and developing the key initiatives to support eBay payments goals and working closely with key cross-functional partners to gain consensus. 

Planning: In close partnership with buyer and platform product, partnerships, finance and risk partners, help create a three-to-five-year plan on payments funding mix and pricing strategy initiatives that support the long-term strategy. Work with PMO and peer strategy teams to ensure project alignment, resourcing and scheduling of the critical initiatives.

Business case development: Create cases for transaction expense optimization initiatives and inform the thinking via discussions with cross-functional partners, tracking industry trends with a view to create best-in-class value-based pricing framework for eBay payments, and keeping in mind eBay’s overall strategic goals.

Support: Provide assistance to the finance team on budget submissions and quarterly forecasting cycles, and to partnerships and business development team in their contract negotiations and provide both strategic and analytic inputs to them as needed - by closely working with the business analytics team. 

Monitoring and strategic analytics: In close collaboration with the business analytics team, build and improve areas for comprehensive tracking and monitoring mechanisms for new business initiatives, funding mix management and pricing for the payments business at eBay.

Industry and competitive trends: Keep a tab on key payments and financial services industry trends in payments transaction expense strategies, the latest pricing strategies, share recommendations with the organization on strategic implications. 

Strategic Planning: Support and contribute to the payments and financial services three- to five-year strategy, including product and service offerings, experiences and capabilities; partner with key partners to ensure that execution is in alignment with the strategy.

Qualification and Experience

Proven leader with at least 8 years of work experience – preferably 2-3 years at a top strategy consulting firm with strategy and analytical focus

Minimum 5+ years experience working in payments or financial services

Bachelor degree or equivalent experience required; Masters or equivalent preferred

Expertise e-commerce and payments strategy is highly desirable 

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$139,600 - $207,900

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
