Payroll Accountant
Description We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support to our general accounting and financial reporting function, managing payroll processes, and ensuring accurate financial record keeping. This role requires close attention to detail, the ability to work well independently and collaboratively, and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities: • Provide support for the general accounting and financial reporting function • Process payroll for employees on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring complete and accurate payment • Collaborate with the Human Resources department to properly withhold and account for pre-tax or after-tax deductions • Reconcile payroll activity to the general ledger regularly • Maintain direct communication with employees, students, vendors, and others to ensure smooth financial operations • Promote and nurture diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization • Prepare regular (monthly, quarterly, and annual) reconciliations and analyses for balance sheet and revenue/expense general ledger accounts using generally accepted accounting principles • Manage the recording and reconciling of donor gifts in collaboration with the Advancement office • Monitor paid time off accruals in the time and attendance system for eligible employees and reconcile these balances to the general ledger on a monthly basis • Assist in audits and other examinations including but not limited to financial statement, workers compensation, retirement plan, and NYS audits, preparation of the Form 990, etc. • Provide support in all areas of accounts and financial reporting as needed. Requirements • Minimum of three years of experience in a bookkeeping role • Proficiency in account reconciliation, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR) • Experience in conducting bank reconciliations • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles • Excellent data entry skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Experience in month end close procedures • Experience in managing payroll for 101-500 employees • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
