Johnson Service Group, a nationally award-winning staffing firm, is seeking a Payroll Specialist for a contract manufacturing company in Carlsbad, CA.
Direct Hire | Onsite | Salary range $75 - $80K based on experience
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all payroll functions while supporting daily Human Resources processes, including employee onboarding. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in payroll administration while contributing to key HR initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration Verify employee time and attendance records, working with management to resolve discrepancies. Process bi-weekly payroll, including transmission, posting, and reconciliation. Manage payroll transactions such as garnishments, pay adjustments, direct deposits, and vacation payouts. Ensure payroll accuracy and timeliness by reviewing and reconciling payroll data prior to transmission. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including proper setup of state tax IDs and filings. Administer court-mandated wage garnishments and withholding orders. Process quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including W-2s and other required filings. Handle off-cycle payroll processing, including restricted stock, deferred compensation, and manual checks for departing employees. Partner with ADP to resolve payroll system issues and ensure smooth operations. Oversee payroll-related audits and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulations. Human Resources Support Collaborate with staffing agencies to onboard temporary employees. Conduct new hire orientation and support electronic onboarding processes. Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, particularly regarding wage and hour regulations. Facilitate time and attendance training for management. Maintain and audit I-9 documentation to ensure compliance. Support company safety programs as needed. Manage the annual Service Award program for tenured employees. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred; payroll management certification a plus. Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with expertise in ADP Workforce Now. Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset. High attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
