Payroll Analyst

Performs deep-dive data analysis into Payroll topics while managing priorities between research and development effectively. Works closely with employees and management to provide integrity for all payroll and accounting systems and reviews including internal and external audits. Performs analytics for business and operational processes.

The Payroll Analyst will be responsible for advanced payroll processes and accounting for multiple legal entities in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.  The successful candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, exceptional organizational skills, and a solid understanding of payroll procedures and regulations. This role also acts as a team lead for other payroll staff on training, escalations, and monitors the accuracy, timeliness, and completion of bi-weekly and weekly payroll processes.

Responsibilities

Resolve complex payroll issues through research, troubleshooting and communicating with impacted stakeholders.

Overall responsibility for the completion of payroll audits to ensure compliance and accuracy of payroll processing.

Collaborate with Finance to resolve payroll discrepancies, assist with general ledger reconciliations, and optimize payroll processes.

Supports internal and external audits for payroll procedures.

Develops and maintains process documentation (e.g. standard operating procedures, desktop procedures and job aids) to ensure a complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of payroll processes.

Work with Senior Payroll Manager to identify and support the testing, training, and implementation of processes that will help drive accuracy and data integrity.

Identify process improvement initiatives and drive timeline for implementation.

Ensure all payroll activities are processed timely, accurately and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and FLSA labor laws.

Assists with various accounting related payroll projects, system testing and implementations.

Assist Payroll Specialists with complex payroll entries (stock, bonuses, corrections).

Provides support to Payroll Tax Analyst and Payroll Specialists as needed.

Proactively identifies and resolves escalations and complex issues, provides root-cause analysis, and implements process improvements.

Work closely with and communicate payroll matters with HR and Finance teams, employees or managers, maintaining a high level of customer service.

Exceptional analytical experience for interpreting data, presenting options, and making informed recommendations with strong people skills need to influence and negotiate with customers

Maintain employee confidence and protect operations by keeping payroll information confidential.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education / Work Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and payroll tax experience

5 years of payroll processing experience including payroll system experience.

US multi-state payroll experience in a complex environment

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Exposure to various payroll and payroll tax platforms with a demonstrated knowledge of systems set-up (e.g. Workday, OSV, SAP, ADP, etc.). 

Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to take initiative and build strong relationships 

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. 

Exercise full discretion and confidentiality in an ethical and professional manner. 

Payroll system implementation and testing experience.

Proficient in Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, creating formulas, etc.)

Analytical with attention to detail.

Ability to work independently both remotely and/or in office settings

Confident under pressure while maintaining a positive demeanor.

Preferred Job Requirements

Education / Work Experience

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

Experience with Canadian, Puerto Rico and UK payroll.

Payroll processing experience in Workday

Experience working in an accounting role or department.
