Payroll & Benefits Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Payroll and Benefits Specialist to support the organization by accurately processing payroll and partnering with the HR and Finance teams to provide reporting, benefits administration, employee relations, and HRIS management.
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist responsibilities include processing multi-state payroll with strong attention to detail, administering benefits, and assisting the HR & Finance teams in supporting our branches.
Payroll & Benefits Specialist Role & Responsibilities
+ Complete full-cycle, bi-weekly and weekly multi-state payrolls for a growing company of 500+ employees.
+ Process payroll adjustments, including retroactive payroll, bonuses, and other exceptions.
+ Review and verify timekeeping information for all employees for completeness and accuracy prior to processing.
+ Audit/process employee maintenance across HRIS, benefits, and accounting ERP systems.
+ Assist with journal entries and account reconciliations monthly.
+ Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to HR, finance, and executive team as requested.
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to benefits and payroll.
+ Knowledge of certified payroll filing requirements.
+ Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
+ Assist in state and local payroll jurisdiction registrations and tax agency notices.
+ Assist with large integration efforts in an M&A environment.
+ Administer benefits plans including enrollments, terminations and changes related to medical, dental, vision, COBRA, FSAs, life insurance; accident and disability; and retirement savings accounts.
+ Set up, communicate, and process the annual open enrollment event.
+ Administer leave of absence requests, including FMLA, short- & long-term disability and military, and coordinate with individual state leaves of absence programs.
+ Respond to employee inquiries.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Payroll & Benefits Specialist Qualifications
+ EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
+ EXPERIENCE: 2 – 5 years of experience with payroll processing in a multi-state environment.
+ TECHNOLOGY:
+ HRIS systems (Paycor experience preferred).
+ SAGE300 (preferred) or ERP systems.
+ SKILLS:
+ Proficient in payroll taxes at federal, state, and local levels.
+ Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
+ Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work with internal/external customers/vendors
+ Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
+ Strong attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy
+ ABILITY: A passion for providing top-notch customer service to our customers. Valid driver’s license and ability to meet our driving requirements.
