Payroll Clerk
Description Robert Half is searching for a Payroll Clerk for our client in the Construction/Contractor industry, based in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a Payroll Clerk, you will be instrumental in supporting the payroll department with various clerical tasks. You will focus on data entry, timecard reconciliation, paycheck distribution, and providing statements to different departments. Your role will also involve effective communication with both the internal team and external customers. This is a short-term contract to full time employment opportunity. Responsibilities: • Accurately process data into Excel and the payroll system • Contact employees to obtain timesheet approvals via phone and email • Provide instructions to employees regarding the use of payroll-related systems such as timesheet entry and online access to pay statements • Ensure accurate audit of union calculations through Excel as instructed • Effectively download, distribute, and save reports as instructed • Create and run custom reports out of the payroll system • Perform various clerical duties including filing, scanning, faxing, and photocopying • Any other duties assigned as per the needs of the department Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a payroll clerk role within the construction/contractor industry • Proficient in using Accounting Software Systems for managing and processing payroll • Demonstrable experience with 'About Time' software for efficient tracking and management of employee hours • Solid understanding of accounting functions, including but not limited to, accounts payable (AP) • Proven experience in auditing payroll and related records to ensure accuracy • Proficient in operating timekeeping systems for accurate tracking of employee work hours • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve any payroll discrepancies promptly and professionally • High level of integrity and discretion, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under strict deadlines • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices would be advantageous • A degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred Robert Half puts you in the best position to succeed by advocating on your behalf and promoting you to employers.
