Payroll Manager
Reports to: Director of HR
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
Hybrid: 4 days in office, 1 day remote
Position Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing for the organization,
ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees in compliance with company policies and
applicable regulations. This role reports directly to the Director of HR and works closely with HR and
finance teams to manage payroll systems, resolve payroll-related issues, and maintain records in a
compliant manner. The Payroll Manager will ensure the smooth operation of payroll functions and
contribute to the overall success of the HR department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including salaried,
hourly, and other staff.
o Ensure accurate and timely processing of bonus payments, commissions, and overtime
and adjustments for increases, terminations, etc.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements, and
maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws.
Review payroll data for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and implement corrective actions as
needed.
Work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure proper deductions (taxes, benefits,
garnishments, etc.) are applied correctly.
Maintain and update payroll records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data
protection laws.
Manage the preparation and submission of payroll-related reports, including tax filings and
benefit deductions.
Coordinate with external vendors, such as benefits providers and tax agencies, to resolve
payroll-related issues.
Assist in the annual preparation of the budget by forecasting payroll-related expenses.
Address employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies or concerns, providing clear and
timely resolution.
Monitor payroll-related processes to ensure adherence to organizational policies and
procedures.
Maintain compliance with applicable labor laws, including wage and hour regulations.
Prepare reports on payroll data for senior management and audits.
Participates in EOS meetings on a weekly basis.
Perform other tasks as requested that do not require materially different skills or significant
additional training.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field, preferred.
Certification in payroll processing (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional - CPP) a nice to have.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in payroll management.
Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems, with proficiency in MS Excel.
Experience with payroll tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
Skills and Abilities
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in payroll processing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex payroll-related issues.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate payroll information clearly to
employees and management.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of payroll-related laws and regulations, including FLSA, IRS regulations, and state-
specific labor and tax laws.
Proficient in the use of payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
A proactive approach to process improvement and technology integration within payroll
systems.
