Payroll Manager

As a Payroll Manager, you'll lead the charge in various Payroll functions and staff with tasks including weekly and bi-weekly US & Canadian payrolls; unclaimed property; Prevailing Wage and certified payrolls; and a variety of operational and tactical processes. You will be the mentor and team lead for Payroll staff to ensure timeliness; accuracy and compliance initiatives are met. What You'll Do:

Mentor and lead Payroll staff ensuring timeliness; accuracy and compliance initiatives are met

Provide on-going training and feedback to staff for payroll systems; new or updated process/procedures and legislative or payroll tax changes

Manage large scale process and system improvement initiatives and projects that require cross functional teams and multiple process changes

Audit and monitor various internal processes as well as inquiries and open help cases for efficiencies and accuracy

Point person for payroll processing escalations and problem solving

Ensure all month-end and quarter close tasks are completed accurately and meet auditing timelines

Manage the union process ensuring reports and payments are made timely and accurately; work with union auditors as needed and ensure continued compliance

Work with staff and outsource vendor to ensure payroll tax compliance and that all tracers are resolved timely

Interface with multiple, interdependent stakeholder groups

Establish updated policies and procedures to reflect process improvements or changes

Develop timelines and communication strategy to key stakeholders and users, including preparation of collateral materials and reference guides

Perform necessary training for all users and stakeholders

Ensure compliance with all SOX and other internal audit policies and procedures

Ensure compliance with existing internal and external regulatory governance

Evaluate key controls, recommend and establish updated and streamlined payroll audit program

Ensure unclaimed property meets due diligence and audit ready compliance

Develop plans that outline branch issues, opportunities, and best practice programs

Recruitment, selection, training, and development of direct report(s)

Organize workload and schedules within department to accommodate field requirements

Preparing/delivering performance evaluations and compensation recommendations

Requirements:

Minimum 5+ years of experience supervising or managing Payroll, preferably in a multi-functional setting with geographically dispersed employee base

Experience in US and Canadian payroll

Experience with system implementation

Experience in dealing with an internal and external customer base

Experience with multiple payroll and timekeeping systems (Workday preferred) and the ability to troubleshoot issues

Ability to manage projects and meet critical deadlines

Experience with payroll taxes and all jurisdictional requirements

Highly developed interpersonal skills, including excellent communication, flexibility, empathy, and persuasiveness

Business oriented with sense of urgency; focused on actions and results and able to prioritize well

Leadership, including coaching and guiding

This individual will need to rely extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Business office with casual business attire and use of a personal computer. Some travel required (0-20%)
