Payroll Processor The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Payroll Processor. Position Details Location Hattiesburg 118 College Drive Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001 United States Division Office of the Controller Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded No Salary Range 12.31 - 13.98 Pay Grade N03 Posting Close Date 1/31/2025 Job Summary Acts as the primary control for processing the University’s payrolls. Generates all required reports and supports all Payroll obligations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Produces payroll for biweekly employees and assists with processing monthly payroll as needed. + Produces and manages the distribution of payroll checks, notification of bank rejection to employees, and replacement of the rejected checks. + Assist campus with time verification and tracking of payroll processing. + Assists in verifying data with the guidance of the Payroll Processing Specialist. + Provides customer support to employees with payroll-related concerns, including in person, by phone, and listserv communication in a timely manner. + Responsible for general deduction data entry, off-cycle check log, and summary of each payroll process account. Assists with other projects and assignments as designated by the Payroll Manager and performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma and 2 years of experience in payroll or related administrative experience. Must be certified or demonstrate proficiency in Excel. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in multiple form. + Ability to effectively communicate information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. + Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. + Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Preferred Qualifications A strong skillset with written and oral communication. Payroll related experience.
