The J71 Medical Cardiac Step-down Unit is part of Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular and Thoracic institute. J71 is one of three Medical Cardiac Stepdown Units that care for the full spectrum of cardiac care. J71/72/73 cares for interventional or PCI patients, those with angina and/or myocardial infarction, heart failure patients and arrhythmia patients needing medical therapy or EPS services, such as temporary or permanent pacemakers and ICD insertion, ablation or cardioversion. Nursing Associate Externs are enrolled in a ten-week program and required to attend classes. Once the program is completed, you may be eligible for a Patient Care Nurse Assistant role. **A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm-7:30am.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter. + Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN. + Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + A high school diploma or GED. + Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). + Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period. + State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
