The Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT must demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Job duties include, but not limited to, performing and accurately recording vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients. In addition to the PCT duties, the PCT II position requires the execution of clerical duties to help support the nursing staff and patients. PCTs are an essential part of the nursing care team with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
Responds to patient crisis situation and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.
Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.
Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians utilizing courteous verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates competency using required computer skills including order entry, admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and ordering of tests.
Maintains charts according to CCHS guidelines, coordinates maintenance of unit supplies (e.g., storeroom, central, maintenance, etc.).
Use proper documentation, writes legibly, signs transcribed orders and records appropriate data, etc.
Performs other related duties as required.
Completes mandatory inservice education.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers and students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent AND one or more of the below qualifications:
Previous patient care experience including taking vital signsNursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified NursingAssistant (CNA) program
Acceptance into a Christiana Care approved Patient Care Technician training programTwo years clerical or related experience preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of basic nursing care provided for specific patient population of unit.
Knowledge of department standards, selected procedures, nursing practice guidelines and procedures.
Ability to obtain information to identify patient needs and to provide care as needed.
Ability to work quickly and accurately
Ability to recognize changes in patient status, take appropriate action and notify RN
Ability to communicate effectively utilizing verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform basic math skills.
Ability to use appropriate safety measures for patients, employees and self.
Ability to follow universal precautions at all times.
Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.
Ability to respond to patient crisis situations under the direction of the RN, following CCHS protocol
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in basic computer skills
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
BCLS Certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, climb as per unit based Physical Demand Checklist.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to biological elements with occasional exposure to chemical and environmental elements, as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.
