Job Overview: Medical technologists analyze samples of blood, tissue and body fluids to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels or blood type; they may also search for specific microorganisms like bacteria or parasites. Preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results are all part of a medical technologist's job.

Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluidsThe Medical Technologist process and receives samples of blood, urine and body fluidsPerforms and interprets clinical laboratory test, obtaining data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseaseAnalyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and proceduresPrepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility testsEnsures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements and performs quality control; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniquesThe Medical Technologist function independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained in the computer and/or log bookMaintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job resultsPrepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing informationContributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.Benefits and Perks

Pay Range: $36.47 to $49.08
