The Power & Controls business of Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Technical Advisor for our Product Design and Definition (PDD) group.   Our PDD department is responsible for modeling design, analysis, and detailing of highly engineered mechanical equipment.  Members of our team implement the engineering design in a 3D model, analyze the tolerance stack up for correct fits and provide detailed drawings for the manufacture of our products.  These functions are foundational to successful execution of the many development programs supporting the various product lines of the Power & Controls business.

The matrix structure of the PDD team establishes the Technical Advisor position to focus on strategic initiatives and provide technical guidance in the areas of tools, processes, and product knowledge.  As the Technical Advisor for this team of 6 to 10 people, the successful candidate will work closely with management and staff to meet program commitments, as well as guiding our department to continuously improve people, processes, and products.  In this role, the challenges are wide, varied, and different each day.  The same is true of the opportunities to succeed.  This is an exciting time for PDD, as the group positions to support new product definition and integrated manufacturing approaches such as Model-Based Definition (MBDef).

What You Will Do

Own technical oversight of PDD activities, ensuring a high-quality output is delivered to our internal customers per standard work requirementsProvide guidance to staff on correct process and methods to implement and document a designRespond to internal engineering customers on correct methods for design documentationSupport requests for proposals with plans and estimates to win new businessEstablish and maintain department procedures and standard work to comply with applicable standards and policiesIdentify and implement PDD process and productivity improvementsSupport strategic skills development and training for optimal long-term department capability of the teamSupport and collaborate with international teamsOpportunity to travel 3-4x per year to other sites as well as conference for technical trainings  

What You Will Learn

You'll ensure the team follows the established standard work requirements for design processes, which will help you understand how to balance flexibility and structure in technical projects.You'll learn how to guide team members on the correct methods and processes to implement designs, potentially improving your leadership and technical coaching abilities.You'll develop communication skills by responding to internal engineering customers, offering advice on proper design documentation methods, and resolving technical issues.

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract ​

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
