Summary
All patients who receive Clinical Neuropsychological care and treatment at the Sanford Facility shall be under the overall care of a physician appointed to the Sanford Facilities medical staff, who shall be responsible for the medical care of the patient throughout any period of hospitalization or treatment at the Sanford Facility.Job Description
The licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist shall be responsible for the care that he or she provides to patients pursuant to this policy, and shall make such documentation in the patient's medical record as is appropriate and necessary for the care and safety of the patient. Such medical record documentation shall be consistent with the medical staff rules and regulations and relevant policies.
A Clinical Neuropsychologist is a professional field of psychology with special expertise in the applied science of brain-behavior relationships. They use this knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients across the lifespan with neurological medical, neurodevelopment and psychiatric conditions, as well as other cognitive and learning disorders.
Qualifications
PsyD. or Ph.D. degree accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). For those individuals who graduated from a doctoral degree program prior to the inception of APA accreditation, or a non-APA accredited program a board Waiver may be requested.
Experience can be demonstrated the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have successfully cared for at least 60 patients that required clinical neuropsychologist services in the last 24 months or have completed a Clinical Neuropsychologist program in the last 12 months. A letter of reference must come from the director of the applicant’s Clinical Neuropsychology program, if applicant is applying directly out of program or a letter of reference may come from the head of the Psychiatry department, chief of service, or the chief medical officer at the institution where the applicant most recently practice.
Continuing education- Allied Health Professionals must meet any continuing education requirements imposed by the applicable licensing or regulatory agency or board certifying body or by the Sanford Facility.
Successful completion of postdoctoral or residency education and training in clinical neuropsychology, as approved by the ABN application committee. Has completed an internship or its equivalent in clinical neuropsychology, if applicable to state requirements.
Currently licensed to practice as a Psychologist who specializes in Clinical Neuropsychology in the state where requesting Allied Health appointment.
Board certification is not currently required for privileges in Neuropsychology. Board certification will become a requirement when the discipline has established a common governing Board and when board certification has become a national standard (as evidenced by a board certification rate of 50% among neuropsychologists nationally, or by a requirement imposed by the payers or licensers of that neuropsychologists be Board certified).
