Job Overview:

Plans and administers physical therapy programs for patients to restore function, relieve pain, prevent disability following injury or disease within scope of practice

Qualifications:

Required:

Physical Therapy Degree from an accredited programNJ Physical Therapy LicenseAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider CertificationTact, initiative and judgment in the performance of dutiesPhysical stamina for lifting and therapeutic handling of patients

Preferred:

Doctoral DegreeCompletion of a pediatric affiliation

Certifications and Licenses Required:

NJ Physical Therapy LicenseAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification

Essential Functions:

Selects, administers, and interprets assessment tools as designated in competency expectations including: History, Screening, Observations, and Evaluations as appropriated to patientsIdentifies and prioritizes time realistic functional goals for remediation, compensation, adaptation or prevention of deficitsSelects, utilizes and evaluates the effectiveness of appropriate treatment methods as designated in competency expectationsApplies principles of activity analysis for grading physical, perceptual/cognitive and psychosocial demands to produce an optimal mesh of child's or family's abilities to meet environmental demandCommunicates effectively with patients, families, & team in oral and written formats in both formal and non-formal situationsAs designated in competency expectations, assists in training others. This may include. Staff, PTAs, Aides, & studentsTakes responsibility for seeking supervision or consultation in relationship to clinical performanceActively contributes to improvement plans effectively utilizes feedbackMeets competency expectations in explaining symptoms, prognosis and functional limitations for a variety of diagnostic groupsMakes discharge recommendations appropriate to the child & their family in consideration of child's prognosis, role expectations, and knowledge of community resources (as designated in competency expectations)Meets minimum annual expected volumesDirect contact with patients, families, nursing, therapists and other health and education professionals. May also include community groups and universitiesAssigns work to and follows up for satisfactory completion of duties of physical therapy assistants, aides, orthotics technician and assists with student training
