Pediatrician - Child Advocacy -- Child Advocacy Center -- Women & Children's Hospital

Job Summary

To provide child abuse evaluations in the Child Advocacy Center and to provide child abuse consultations for patients at Women and Children's Hospital. The physician will also be available for expert consultation on patients outside of Women and Children's Hospital for possible child abuse and neglect and will be available for court appearances as an expert witness

Contributes medical expertise and supervision for the provision, evaluation and continuing improvement of patient care services rendered in the Pediatric Ambulatory Unit at Women and Children's Hospital and Newborn Nursery.

 Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing medical expertise and consultation for the unit to enhance provision of high quality care and efficient utilization of resources consistent with quality clinical practice.

• Act as an educator and/or consultant for the residents and medical students on clinic rotation.

• Responsible for monitoring and review of patient records and reports to assure quality care and desirable outcomes.

• Assures that provider coverage and provision of care meets the needs of the patients.

• Participates in Unit Collaborative Practice Committee to problem solve and address issues affecting patient care and outcomes.

• Reviews unit specific policies and procedures and participates in development of updates as indicated.

• Makes recommendations regarding equipment and supply needs, in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Nurse Manager, for budgetary planning in keeping with technological and clinical advancements.

• Provides support to the Medical Director in planning calendar and activities which will provide adequate and appropriate supervision/ coverage for the residents and medical students assigned to the unit.

• Supports and participates in continuous Quality Improvement (TQM) initiatives

• Assures compliance with Medical Staff By-Laws/ Rules and Regulations, applicable accrediting body Standards and CAMC Policies and Procedures.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions) 1. Maintain and document all applicable required education. 2. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. 5. Perform work in a cost effective manner. 6. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education 

• Medical Degree (Required) Education: Board certified in Pediatrics

Unrestricted West Virginia Medical License
