We’re looking for aPeer Specialistfor our Home Base (Intensive) Program to empower families facing difficult challenges like substance abuse and mental illness. Why You’ll Love This Role: + Flexibility: Work part-time, 4 days a week, Hours include late afternoon, evening availability is as-needed and Saturdays required. + Competitive Pay: $17/hour for up to 17 hours per week. + Location: Central Islip, NY—helping the community right where you live. Your Mission:As a Peer Specialist, you’ll use your own lived experiences to help families in crisis feel supported and understood. You’ll be working hand-in-hand with our Case Management Unit to deliver peer support and assist with daily operations. Whether it's home visits, phone check-ins, or facilitating youth groups, you’ll be making a difference in meaningful ways. Key Responsibilities: + Support Families in Crisis: Offer peer support to families dealing with substance abuse and mental health issues through home visits, phone check-ins, and in-person encouragement. + Plan and Lead Activities: Take clients on recreational outings and lead group activities for adolescents to help them engage and grow. + Ensure Monthly Visits: Make sure families receive the visits they need each month as directed by the Program Director. + Manage Resources: Follow the procedures for managing petty cash and program funds responsibly. + Run Educational Workshops: Organize and lead monthly workshops for adolescents to provide them with life skills and support. + Keep Records Up-to-Date: Maintain accurate client records and make them available for review when needed. + Provide Crisis Intervention: Step in to assist families during moments of crisis when necessary. + Collaborate with Team: Work closely with program staff and referral agencies to ensure families get the support they need. + Stay Professional: Interact respectfully and professionally with families and all partners. + Engage in Team Meetings: Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to stay informed and continuously improve. What we are looking for: + Life Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. If you’re in recovery, we ask that you’ve achieved at least three years of sobriety. + Community Resources: Must have knowledge of treatment and mental health programs. + Hands-on Knowledge: Familiarity with substance abuse, mental health, criminal justice, or adolescent behavior is a huge plus. + Tech-Savvy: You’re comfortable with Microsoft Office, email, and spreadsheets to keep everything on track. + Strong Communication: You can connect with people from all walks of life, from families to agencies, with ease and professionalism.
