PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Peer Support Specialist position is responsible for identifying and welcoming individuals who are interested in receiving care from any of our Pittsburgh Mercy family of services.  They are to utilize their shared lived experience and exceptional knowledge of accessing services in order to assist individuals in need while ensuring the voice and choice of those served are communicated.  The Peers Support Specialist will assist with those identified for enrollment in services to support their high-touch engagement needs.  They will promote wellness, empowerment, self-care and self-advocacy to help individuals identify and utilize supports, skills and strengths in their recovery.  They will collaborate with other care team members to identify programs and service environments that are conducive to an individual’s recovery and work on overcoming barriers for individuals to link with services indicated.  Peer Support Specialists will assist in engagement, awareness, support and community integration skills and work on identifying and removing barriers to access the treatment systems.  They will utilize Wellness Coaching techniques and Shared Decision Making model techniques to achieve meeting the needs of those served.  They are responsible for documenting all services provided. There are two primary locations where this position will work: 905 Watson St. and 249 South 9th St. Pittsburgh, PA. Both are accessible by public transportation.

REQUIREMENTS

Lived experience as a consumer of Mental Health Services, Homeless Care Services and/or Substance Use Disorder Services.High School Diploma/GEDMust be able to obtain ACT 33/34/73 clearances upon hire.

SCHEDULE

Monday: 12pm-4pm

Tuesday: 8am-12pm

Wednesday: 12pm-4pm

Thursday: 12pm-4pm

Friday: 12pm-4pm

(This is a non-exempt/hourly position)
