JOB TITLE: PEER SPECIALIST
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES
LOCATION: BRIARWOOD (QUEENS)
SALARY: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
SUMMARY:
The Peer Specialist will assist with client basic social service's needs. Individual will work in conjunction with the social services team to monitor and provide appropriate basic services to individual clients at a 200+ bed men’s shelter. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform daily inspections of all client areasRespond to incidents as appropriatePerform regular area inspections to ensure that rules are adhered tooMonitor sitting areas and cafeteria to ensure all clients are adhering to schedules and are in proper locationsAssist security team as neededAssist clients in daily living skills and assist with cleaning area, laundry, hygiene and with intakesAnswer phones when necessaryAssist with all house operationsAssist with maintenance duties as neededAssist clients with securing property within assigned lockerTracking locks for all lockersStore and remove client property from the client storage/locker areaMaintain a clean and organized storage areaRelocate items and furniture as necessaryComplete intakes for new clients and provide orientation to the drop-in center program and DHS rules and regulations.Review logbooks at start of each shift to ensure that all new client intakes are completed within 24 hours as required.Maintain required documentation in case records in written and computer database (CARES) and update client’s records in accordance with governmental and agency policy.Collect client identification and other documents necessary during initial intake.Input new clients on weekly data tracking spreadsheets.Provide direct coverage for client reception/sitting area.Participate in regular supervision, team meetings and staff trainings.Perform all/other duties as directed by management.Attend and participate in all required agency meetings: staff meetings, house meetings, in-service training and weekly case review.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
1-year experience dealing with homeless or special needs population
Excellent communication skill
Comfortable working with an at risk and homeless population
